SafetyTat is a product that should win awards for Best Parenting Idea Ever!

What are they? Temporary tattoos, in a variety of cute designs, printed with a cell phone number. Show of hands here: who’s headed out somewhere crowded with the family and written on their child’s arm with a Sharpie? I totally have. With five kids, four of them itty bitty, and one of them autistic, I’m kind of a freak about keeping track of my children. It’s SO EASY to lose track of somebody!
We’re going to Disneyland soon, and you can bet I’ll be ordering a couple of sets of these before we leave. And they have designs specific for autistic/non-verbal kids! I love it! I think these are the designs we’re going to get.

They have lots of cute designs for boys and girls, and designs that alert to other health issues too. I have a friend whose child has a severe nut allergy, and she’s going to flip when she sees these! I just can’t get over what a fantastic idea this is – it’s odd that nobody ever thought of it before! It’s so simple, yet so effective. Awesome. This is a mom-run company, and I hope they’ve submitted their product for awards everywhere! Check ‘em out:

I hope all my mama readers had a fantastic mother’s day yesterday!
Here is the winner of the Autism Awareness Bracelet Giveaway, as chosen randomly:

The winner is…
Susan Shuyler
Congratulations, Susan!
I’m so excited because I actually know Susan! She’s a mama to boy/girl twins like me, and has a son with autism around the age of my son too. And she’s co-president of my twin club – she rocks! Yay, Susan! I’ll be in touch to arrange getting your bracelet to you!
My friend Erin is trying to spread the word about her friend’s new business, Grubs Gear. It’s a line of premium t-shirts featuring the characters of Bryan Bode. Here’s a message from the illustrator himself:
Hi Everyone, I have exciting news that I wanted to share with you. For the longest time I have looked forward to doing something cool with a bunch of fun characters I created many years ago called Grubs. Inspired by the likes of Paul Frank and Johnny Cupcakes, I have now officially brought my characters to life on premium t-shirts for people to enjoy.
I’m here to announce the launch of grubsgear.com, the home of everything Grubs! I have created a t-shirt line for men, women, and kids with the goal of designing the coolest, most comfortable, premium t-shirts around.
I think these are so cute! The characters sort of remind me of The Twiddlebugs from Sesame Street. Very cute. If you like what you see, you can save 15% with the coupon code whataregrubs. Check it out! ![]()
Have you noticed lately that lots of places are advertising $4 prescriptions for generic drugs? Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and I think locally, King Soopers have all announced cheap prices for generic meds. I can’t believe how expensive prescription drugs are. I imagine more and more people are taking advantage of those cheap generic drug prices. I’m so thankful that we have health insurance, since lots of people just don’t. It’s expensive too, but…God forbid we ever had a serious injury or illness or something and didn’t have insurance, y’know?
It’s unfortunate that you can’t get generic versions of more medications. My parents both take a variety of medications every day – and when I say “variety,” I really mean, “boatload” – the amount they spend on prescription meds must be insane. I often wonder if it would be a better value for them to take advantage of an online pharmacy to cut out the middle-man and save a few dollars. I was checking out the list of online prescriptions at eDrugstore.md and I noticed that if you fill a prescription through them, you can get a $20 discount on the refill – every single time you refill it. That’s probably a pretty good deal, there – you’re sure not going to run into that at an actual pharmacy with a pharmacist and a staff of pharmacy techs and a long line of angry old people in front of you. I’m not sure of the actual savings, since I don’t even know what my prescriptions cost beyond my co-pay, but I imagine the benefit of having your prescription just sent to you is worth quite a bit.
Just a thought.
